  19. ******** INTRODUCTION ****************
  20.  
  21. CONVERT 2.0 for the Windows TM operating system is a program designed to make
  22. your life a little easier.  Now, you no longer have to dig out that book
  23. with all those formulas and spend time looking up that particular
  24. conversion factor that applies to your particular application.  Most,
  25. if not all, of your conversions can now be done in a fraction of the
  26. time it takes to look them up in a book.
  27.  
  28. I had to fix a couple of minor bugs in the program so this is the 2.0-a version.
  29.  
  30. In Area Conversion - Entering value to be converted into Square Yards, Square Roods
  31. was resulting 0.
  32.  
  33. Some of the Result numbers were too long for the result boxes. Redesigned most of
  34. the Conversion Forms to accomodate more digits.
  35.  
  36. ******** SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS *********
  37.  
  38. Microsoft Windows Version 3.1 or later running in 386 Enhanced Mode. CONVERT 2.0
  39. will run with version 3.0, but the WinHelp.EXE version 3.0 will not support the
  40. CVT.HLP file. Convert will not run if you are running windows in the Standard
  41. Mode. Windows is running in Standard Mode if it was loaded using the /S switch.
  42.  
  43. 386SX/DX, 486SX/DX.

  45. At least 900 KBytes available on hard drive.
  46.  
  47. SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS
  48.  
  49. If you have a previous version of Convert, it is NOT RECOMMENDED that you retain
  50. these files. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you go to the directory where the
  51. previous version of Convert resides and delete all the files before installing
  52. Convert 2.0.
  53.  
  54. Also, if you had a previous version of Convert then go into the C:\WINDOWS
  55. directory and delete the file "CONVERT.INI". When you run Convert 2.0 for the
  56. first time, a new CONVERT.INI will be generated.
  57.  
  58. If you already have a copy of the THREED.VBX file on your C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM
  59. directory, then you can delete this file from the Convert directory. This will
  60. save you 65K bytes of space on your hard drive. MAKE SURE that you have this
  61. file on your system as Convert will not run without it.
  62.  
  63. The VBRUN300.DLL is REQUIRED to run Convert. This file can be found in any
  64. number of places. I have not included the VBRUN300.DLL file in the CVT2.ZIP
  65. because it increases the file size considerably, (almost 400K). On CompuServe
  66. it can be found in the following forums:

  72. or simply click on the "Find" button on WinCIM and then type VBRUN300. Many
  73. BBS's also will have this file in their archives somewhere.

  75. MEMORY REQUIREMENTS
  76.  
  77. At least 4 Meg of RAM. Program may generate an "Out of Memory" error. If
  78. this happens, try to run CONVERT again. Windows should re-allocate the available
  79. memory to run CONVERT. If not, see "Customer Support" in the file CVT.HLP.
  80. Also, check your Windows - Control Panel - 386 Enhanced setting for swap-file
  81. size. It is generally recommended to have a permanent swap file in your
  82. system. See you Windows documentation for instructions on how to change the
  83. Windows Swap File settings.
  84.  
  85. OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  86.  
  87. Although you can effectively run CONVERT without a Mouse, CONVERT was
  88. written to optimally take full advantage if you have a Mouse. See the
  89. help file for instructions.

  91. Hercules Monochrome, CGA/EGA, VGA/SVGA.
  92.  
  93. NOTE:    I have run Convert on a bare bones 286 with a Hercules Monochrome
  94.     monitor, 2 Meg RAM, Windows version 3.0 with vesion 3.1 WINHELP.EXE
  95.     with the following results:
  96.  
  97.     1. The program took a long time to load.
  98.  
  99.     2. The Windows graphics were cut off at the bottom.
  100.  
  101.     Otherwise, the program seemed to run OK. If you experience other
  102.     problems, please let us know.

  112. The following files are used to provide the various graphics used in
  113. the Convert program, DO NOT DELETE!:
  114.  
  115. CONV.BMP
  116. CONVERT.BMP
  117.  
  118. No manual is included since the extensive Help file has all the
  119. instructions necessary to run Convert.
  120.  
  121. This is a Shareware Product.  You are authorized to freely use it for a
  122. period not to exceed 30 days.  You are then REQUIRED to register it.
  123. See the Help file for registration procedures.

  125. ********** INSTALLING CONVERT 2.0 *************
  126.  
  127. 1. Simply create a directory named whatever you want, it is suggested however,
  128.    that you create a directory named CONVERT.
  129.  
  130. 2. Copy the files on this disk to your recently created directory.
  131.  
  132. 3. Run CVT.EXE. The first time the program runs, you will be asked the directory
  133.    where the Convert 2.0 files are located. Just follow the instructions and you
  134.    will be up and running in no time.

  136. ******** TROUBLESHOOTING CONVERT 2.0 **********
  137.  
  138. Problem 1: "Unable to find file" When loading Convert 2.0
  139.  
  140. Cause 1: The program files were moved to a different directory or drive after
  141. Convert 2.0 was initially installed and the setup was ran.
  142.  
  143. Solution: Go to the \Windows directory and delete the file "CONVERT.INI" then
  144. run CVT.EXE again. The setup should prompt you for the directory where
  145. Convert is to reside.
  146.  
  147. Cause 2: You have deleted one or more of the files that are distributed with
  148. Convert 2.0.
  149.  
  150. Solution: Go to the directory where you want Convert 2.0 to reside and PKUnzip
  151. the file CVT2.ZIP in that directory. Go to the \Windows directory and delete the
  152. file CONVERT.INI. Run CVT.EXE and follow the setup instructions.
  153.  
  154. Cause 3: You do not have the file VBRUN300.DLL on your system.
  155.  
  156. Solution: See the SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS section elsewhere in this text for instructions
  157. on where to obtain this file.

  161. Problem 2: "Out of Memory" When loading Convert 2.0
  162.  
  163. Cause 1: You might be running Windows in Standard Mode.
  164.  
  165. Solution: Exit Windows then re-start Windows WITHOUT the /S switch, i.e., C:>WIN
  166.  
  167. Cause 2: You might have several applications running that take up too much of the
  168. memory resources on your machine.
  169.  
  170. Solution: Close some of the other applications and try to reload Convert 2.0.
  171.  
  172. Cause 3: There is not physically enough memory to run Convert 2.0.
  173.  
  174. Solution: You might try going into the Windows Control Panel, 386 Enhanced and
  175. create a Permanent Swap File on your machine. See your Windows documentation for
  176. instructions on how to do this.
  177.

  180. Problem 3: At resolutions of Super VGA 1024 X 768 and greater, the program gets
  181. rearranged on the screen, i.e., the program window is bigger than the Convert 2.0
  182. graphic picture, some of the icons might not appear correctly, etc.
  183.  
  184. Cause: This program is designed to run in resolution modes of Super VGA 800 X 640 and
  185. lower.
  186.  
  187. Solution: Go to Win Setup and select a video driver that is compatible with
  188. Convert 2.0, i.e., Super VGA 800 X 640, etc. See you Windows documentation for
  189. instructions on how to do this.

  193. Problem 4: When loading Convert 2.0 you get the following message:
  194.  
  195.  "The file 'C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\THREED.VBX' is out of date.
  196.  This program requires a newer version"
  197.  
  198. Cause: There are numerous versions of the THREED.VBX file. Many Windows load and use
  199. routines found in Danamic Link Libraries(DLL) and Visual Basic Controls(VBX) and keep
  200. these routines in memory. These routines are unique in that they can be shared by
  201. more than one program. If a program is running that is using a different version of
  202. the THREED.VBX file than is resident in the directory where the Convert program
  203. resides then there may be conflicts.
  204.  
  205. Solution: Check your WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory for the THREED.VBX file. If there is a
  206. later version of than the one residing in the Convert program's directory, then it
  207. is safe to delete the THREED.VBX file in the Convert directory. At any rate, you
  208. should have the latest version of THREED.VBX in your WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.
